Tasting Note Viognier (Vee-on-yay) is one of the classic white varieties of the Southern Rhone valley in France. Revelling in slightly warmer conditions, it has found its Southern Hemisphere home in Hawke’s Bay on our vineyard in the Bridge Pa triangle area.
Full varietal flavours are only achieved by holding the fruit on the vines for an extended period as the aromatic qualities of this grape are the last elements to appear in the ripening process. The 2009 vintage provided
exceptional ripening conditions with perfectly clean, ripe fruit.
The nose exhibits lovely fresh aromas of musk and sweet orange marmalade with just a hint of spiciness. On the palate, the classic varietal flavours of mandarin peel and
citrus abound and are augmented by a full-bodied, mouthfilling texture of exceptional length.
Perfect for casual summer drinking or paired to a wide range of cuisine – especially creamy, white meat dishes.
May be cellared for up to five years from the bottling date.

Reviews A classic Viognier bouquet - it's nicely lifted displaying tropical fruit, apricot and subtle spice characters. The palate is lush and succulent showing generous flavours with a touch of sweetness (4.9 g/l) and an expansive finish. It's varietaly expressive and immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2013. Sam Kim, July 2010.
