Tasting Note Although its name is German, this wine has its roots in
Northern Italy. Until the 16th century, the Traminer grape was
widely grown in Italy's Tyrolean Alps, which is near the village
of Tramin, located in the Alto Adige region. This explains the
second part of the wine's name. The prefix, Gewürz, has the
popular translation "spicy," although some argue it could also
mean "perfumed." Today the most prominent style comes from
the Alsace region of France.
Light green in colour, the 2009 vintage displays floral aromas of
roses and gardenias, with the fruit characters of lychee,
peaches and mangos.
The palate is rich with a silky mouth feel, dominated by
honeyed mandarin, peaches and rose water flavours that
continue strongly, leading to a spicy, nutmeg and clove finish.
A perfect complement to spicy Indian and Asian dishes.
