2007 White Label Hawkes Bay Syrah
Tasting Note
Syrah has a long documented history in the Rhône region of southeastern France. The wines that made Syrah famous were those from Hermitage, the hill above the town Tain-l'Hermitage in northern Rhône.

Our 2007 vintage has the classic aromas of cracked pepper and spicey stewed plums that erupt from the glass. Further inspection reveals underlying complexities of dark chocolate, new leather and savoury mushrooms.

The palate is weighty and smooth, with lovely soft, ripe tannins providing length and stature. Spicey prunes dominate the flavours, perhaps with a delicate sprinkling of black pepper.

This wine will drink superbly with full-flavoured menus that will not be overpowered by the wine – such as a medium-rare peppered steak with potato gratin.

While drinking well young, it will benefit from controlled cellar ageing for up to 5 years after bottling date.
