Second Decanter Win For Coniglio
Winning one of the worldıs top Chardonnay competitions has gained
international credibility - and endorsement - for our development of
Chardonnay wines.

Morton Estate Wines is New Zealandıs premier chardonnay producing company.
The companyıs second Decanter World Wine Awards Trophy, making it two for
wines from different vintages, underlined the consistent quality of Mortonıs
premier brand.

Our Hawkes Bay winemaker, Evan Ward, says the signature Coniglio brand was
the companyıs way of stamping its mark indelibly on the Chardonnay market.
Elegant, refined and integrated, it has not only set a new standard for
Chardonnays, but has also influenced the quality of Morton Estateıs
Chardonnays at all price points including Black Label, White Label,
Private Reserve and Riverview.

"With Coniglio we thought it was important to create a Chardonnay that was
something different and when we tasted the first Coniglio from the barrel we
knew it was the best Chardonnay we had ever made," says Evan Ward.
"I set out to make a wine that is seamless one that has more integration,
elegance and complexity than anything we had previously made."

The many inputs to this successful wine include site selection the
Riverview Vineyard is unique in its elevated, inland location - Mendoza
Clone vines and innovative canopy management techniques. When it comes to
harvesting, Coniglio grapes are chosen by taste, hand picked, chilled over
night, then whole-bunch pressed prior to fermentation followed by maturation
in new French oak barrels.

"Weıve done a lot of work on barrel selection and have chosen barrels with
specific properties that retain the subtle flavours of the original fruit,"
says Evan.

The Coniglio was developed to reflect the supreme quality of fruit and
winemaking expertise that has driven Morton Estate at least for the last ten
years.
